Aircraft Brake Systems: Managing Deceleration and Ground Control
Brake systems are a critical safety component in aircraft operations. These systems enable pilots to slow down and stop the aircraft during landing, taxiing, and rejected takeoff situations. Aircraft brake systems must function reliably under extreme operational conditions, including high speeds and heavy loads.
Most modern aircraft use disc brake systems installed within the landing gear assembly. When the pilot applies braking force, hydraulic pressure activates brake discs that create friction against rotating wheels. This friction converts kinetic energy into heat, allowing the aircraft to decelerate safely.
